Aegis (/ˈiːdʒɪs/ EE-jis; Ancient Greek: αἰγίς aigís) definitions:
1. "The protection, backing, or support of a particular person or organization."
2. (Classical art and mythology) "an attribute of Zeus and Athene (or their Roman counterparts Jupiter and Minerva) usually represented as a goatskin shield."
3. (Our definition) "A community run, pre-emptive ban reporting service, for streamers, discord server owners, and their associated administration/moderation teams."
At the core, Aegis is a system for streamers (currently limited to Twitch) and Discord server teams who operate LGBTQIA+ safe spaces, to report bans they have issued against trolls, raiders, and those that do not follow the rules of these spaces.
These reports are made in announcement channels that get pushed out to registered members so they can get up to date and immediate reports.
From there, moderation teams of the registered communities can then judge those offenses against their own community standards, and pre-emptively issue bans BEFORE these folks come knocking.
As of March 2025, Aegis has over 70 registered communities with a combined community representation of over sixty-seven thousand members!
For security reasons they cannot be named but some of our members include partnered twitch streamers and partnered discords.
In addition to security, Aegis is a central place for streamers and discord teams to meet, collaborate, plan events, exchange ideas, look for additional and experienced mods, train new mods, and so much more.
You can trust those participating on Aegis are who they say they are; through our in-depth registration process.
Aegis staff scrutinize applications and verify the identity of those registering, including but not limited to: joining discord communities, watching twitch VODs, looking at social media accounts.
Once verified, we will share your server invite/channel link in a member list so other members know who is involved.
Security and keeping people safe is our #1 priority.
The Aegis team recognizes that sometimes a tough stance is necessary to ensure safety and security; we will always attempt to calmly resolve any issues that arise, especially those within the community, however, we will not hesitate to kick members, or even deregister servers to maintain the harmony and safety of our community.

You must meet the requirements below:
Discord:
Be an LGBTQIA+ server or an LGBTQIA+ safe space.
No less than 200 members.
Your community is over 9 months old and has a viewable message history.
Depending on other factors these requirements may be reduced.
Twitch:
Be an LGBTQIA+ server or an LGBTQIA+ safe space.
Be a twitch affiliate or partner. If not you must have over 150 followers.
Your channel must be over 6 months old.
Have visible rules on your about page and chat.
Have VODs of previous streams.
Depending on other factors these requirements may be reduced.
Other factors that may help with both twitch and discord registrations may include if you have connected social media accounts, youtube, websites etc.
Aegis also offers a read-only mode for communities that do not meet the requirements or opt for that option instead.

Founded in 2021 in response to the void left by Pride Shield, Aegis was created to protect LGBTQIA+ and Safe Space Discord communities and Twitch streamers. In collaboration between multiple LGBT+ communities including The Transverse (TTV), Trans Community Centre (TCC), LGBTQ+ Discord, and Rose Garden, along with the help of twitch streamers Rosa_Ylva and AngelicJulie, Aegis was created.
With The Transverse owning Aegis, Emily(TTV) and Charlotte(TTV) headed the the project. Due to her programming experience they asked Rosa(Rosa_Ylva) to manage the technical side of the project. Rosa provided the overall design and took the position of lead programmer. Rosa was also supported by Skye(LGBTQ+), providing their programming expertise.
Branding and advertising Aegis was also a collaborative effort. Full credit of the naming of Aegis goes to Mira(TTV), along with the mythological meaning, Aegis also holds a special meaning between Mira and Rosa. The logo design was handled by Emily, Finn(TCC), and Rosa, with Emily coming up with the final design.
Charlotte with her connections handled the invites and communications between the communities.
Ashleigh(TCC) being one of the main advisors provided discord design support.
Both Julie(AngelicJulie) and Finn provided staff support by being part of the verification team for onboarding communities to the service.
At the end of 2021 Aegis had 20 registered communities and streamers, with a combined community representation of over ten thousand.
By May 2022, Aegis grew to over 30 registered discord communities and streamers, with a combined community representation of over twenty thousand!
As of May 2023, Aegis has grown to over 50 registered communities with a combined community representation of over forty-seven thousand members!
In 2023, with TTV focusing on their multiple media projects, ownership of Aegis was handed over to Rosa to become a independent project.
